Dipped Mica Capacitors are made from Indian ruby muscovite mica. Mica is a natural organic dielectric, an aluminum silicate mineral. Mica is among the most inert and stable materials used in electronic components. Capacitors that use mica for a dielectric are very stable. Mica capacitors are also very efficient. They lose only small amounts the applied volt-amperes as heat.
Their ruggedness and durability make these capacitors an ideal choice for any applications that require products to perform in harsh environments. Silvered mica is made by printing electrodes on mica film with a special silver paste. The silvered films are stacked to the desired value interleaved with metal foils for contact. (This is why the higher the capacitance units are thicker then the lower capacitance units). Then the terminals are clamped on to the element. The clamped unit is either dipped under vacuum in epoxy resin and coated with epoxy powder conformally or dipped in phenolic resin and vacuum impregnated with liquid epoxy resin. This design ensures high moisture and heat resistance.
Dipped mica capacitors are often a good choice when tight tolerance and stability are required. Some of the common applications where you often find products using dipped mica capacitors are in delay lines, filters, pulse forming networks, D.C. voltage blocking and transmission circuits. Their wide temperature range and high insulation make them particularly suitable for these applications.
TEDSS can provide you with dipped mica capacitors quickly and at the right price. Our extensive inventory allows you to get most standard values the very next day. If you have a requirement for a special value or non-standard tolerances, contact us and we will help you get just what you need for your application.
